Not that many years ago I closed a Macy's credit card account, to lighten my wallet. As revealed a week or so ago I once again applied for the Macy's card. No I am not a huge Macy's customer. However, there are a few things I like to buy at Macy's, like shoes, and I venture in every so often. I generally turn down all requests for store cards anymore because I have all I really need. Plus I am one to use my cash back rewards card. One card is both convenient and income producing.
Did I mention that I earned $1499.38 in cash back and rebates in 2011?
That is bar-none the most I have ever seen come back in. Considering my purchases were way down in 2011, this reflects: business purchase, strategic bill paying with credit, maxing out of bonus periods, and rebates for things I had to buy (like a stinkin' clicker for class).
Okay, I ventured way off topic. To continue with the Macy's card - I made 2 purchases and only decided on the 2nd one that day to apply for the card. It was a financial decision and the clerk reversed my first charge to assist me with saving more money when I applied for the card with the second purchase. That day, not taking into account the savings from sales and buying on clearance, the card saved me $48.95 off what I would have paid with my cash back card. In case you are wondering I would have earned $2.80 $3.29 in cash back on my visa card.
**adjustments when I realized I based cash back on the initial discounted charge
This meant I immediately saved an extra $46.15 $45.66 on the day of purchase.
My bill from the new card came in the mail today. As promised on the day I made the purchase, my account was credited 20% of the purchases made that day. This equates to an additional $56.08 in savings from things I was going to purchase anyway.
Making the total ding to my credit worth $102.23 $101.74.
**a small decrease but still decent
